Retrieving Logs

From F-List Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

First off, you have to be sure that you have PM logging enabled on whichever client you are using. The settings for PM logging are as follows:

  • F-Chat 1.0/Standard: Settings -> Make sure that “Disable PM logging” is unchecked.
  • F-Chat 2.0/Experimental: Settings -> Make sure that “Enable PM logging” is checked.
  • F-Chat 3.0/All Platforms: Settings -> Make sure "Log messages" is checked.
  • slimCat: Home -> Settings -> "Automatically logged each message" is checked.

Once you’ve made sure that you have PM logging enabled, follow these instructions depending on which chat client you’re using.

If you are using 1.0

(accessed via the large “Enter the Chat” button on the frontpage)

1. Open your Javascript console. This can be accessed the following ways depending on which browser you’re using:

  • Google Chrome - CTRL + Shift + J
  • Firefox - CTRL + Shift + K

2. On the input line, input the following and press enter:

If you know the name of the user

    FList.Chat_tabs.addTab("person",'CHARACTERNAME',"")

If you don’t know the name of the user

   var c = FList.Chat_identity || FList.Chat.identity; var open = function(name) { FList.Chat_tabs && (FList.Chat_tabs.addTab("person", name, "") || true) || FList.Chat.openPrivateChat(name, true); }; for (var x in localStorage) if (localStorage.hasOwnProperty(x)) if (x.indexOf(c) !== -1 && x.indexOf("_last") === -1) open(x.substring(c.length+1));

This will open up PM windows for every single user you have stored PMs with. Locate the PM window you’re wanting to get logs from and voila!

If you are using 2.0

(accessed via the link below “Enter the Chat” on the frontpage)

If you know the name of the user

   /fpriv character

This will force open a window with the user even if they are offline.

If you don’t know the name of the user

1. Open your Javascript console. This can be accessed the following ways depending on which browser you’re using:

  • Google Chrome - CTRL + Shift + J
  • Firefox - CTRL + Shift + K

2. On the input line, input the following and press enter:

   var c = FList.Chat_identity || FList.Chat.identity; var open = function(name) { FList.Chat_tabs && (FList.Chat_tabs.addTab("person", name, "") || true) || FList.Chat.openPrivateChat(name, true); }; for (var x in localStorage) if (localStorage.hasOwnProperty(x)) if (x.indexOf(c) !== -1 && x.indexOf("_last") === -1) open(x.substring(c.length+1));

This will open up PM windows for every single user you have stored PMs with. Locate the PM window you’re wanting to get logs from and voila! It also appears to break the client, be ready to reload once you got the name. Specifically, opening profile pages seems disabled after this. It apparently opens IM with the character's URL instead.

If you are using F-Chat 3.0

Retrieving logs for 3.0 depends slightly on your platform.

F-Chat 3.0 Desktop

If you know the name of the user

Open the log viewer by clicking the "Logs" button at the top of the screen. Click the "Conversation" tab and find the username in this list. Select the date and you should be able to view all logs.

If you don't know the name of the user

You may wish to check your most recent conversations, you can do so by clicking "Recent Conversations" above the Console tab.

If you are using slimCat

(Slimcat is a third party client and F-List staff are unable to provide support for it.)

If you know the name of the user

   /priv "character"

The quotes will force a window open with the exact name, even if slimCat cannot find the person.

If you do not know the name of the user

1. Go to the home tab

2. Click on 'recent tabs'

3. Click on the person whose name you forget
